My 5-year-old son Clark, named after Superman, has three favorite heroes: Superman, Spider-Man, and Luke Skywalker. He admires Superman for his strength and always doing what’s right, Spider-Man for swinging into action to help people even when it’s tough, and Luke for being brave and never giving up on his friends. These heroes show him that anyone can be strong, kind, and a hero in their own way.
Clark’s love of superheroes started with me, his dad. I grew up watching Superhero cartoons, playing with piles of X-Men and Spider-Man action figures, and falling in love with Star Wars and the hero Luke Skywalker. Now I get to pass those same nostalgic passions down to him so he can discover the same joy and heroism that shaped my childhood.
Clark has been through so much with multiple autoimmune diseases and stage 3 liver cirrhosis, yet his real superpower is already his courage, bravery, and positivity. The power I’d most want for my 5-year-old Super Kid is Wolverine’s healing abilities, so his body could bounce back and stay strong. He already shows us what a true hero looks like every day.
