After losing her best friend to suicide, my daughter created To Youth From Youth to champion suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
Thank you for generously supporting Kaylin in this year’s competition. Your participation made a huge impact for The Stan Lee Foundation and their mission to promote literacy and the narrative arts.
Her favorite superhero is Spider-Man because he shows that anyone can make a difference, even while facing personal struggles and loss. She admires his courage, compassion, and belief that great power comes with great responsibility. Like Spider-Man, she turned pain into purpose by creating Two Youth for Youth to raise awareness, offer hope, and help others struggling with suicide and mental illness.
Her love of superheroes came from us, her parents. We taught her that heroes are not defined by superpowers, but by their courage, compassion, and willingness to help others. She grew up believing that one person’s voice can make a difference. After losing her best friend, she carried that lesson forward by turning her grief into purpose and becoming a source of hope for other young people.
Her superpower would be the ability to see the pain people hide and replace it with hope. Through To Youth from Youth, her mission is to ensure no young person feels invisible or alone. She would use this power to help others recognize their worth, find the courage to speak up, and believe that even their darkest moment can lead to a brighter tomorrow.
