Thank you for generously supporting Mara in this year’s competition. Your participation made a huge impact for The Stan Lee Foundation and their mission to promote literacy and the narrative arts.

Who is Mara's favorite superhero and why do they admire them?

Mara really loves Black Widow, she seen how hard her life was as a child and it resonated with her and her own experiences overcoming her own personal struggles. She mentioned that she loved how Black Widow was the emotional regulator of the Avengers, and how she was able to help the Hulk calm down. Mara doesn’t just love Marvel hero’s though, she is also a huge fan of Stephen Universe and really found joy and acceptance in watching that series while she was sick.

Where did Mara's love of superheroes come from?

Mara says. ‘I think it’s the fact that as a normal person we aren’t able to change the world easily, but when we have superpowers it gives us a voice to make changes that need to happen with much less difficulty’.

What superpower would Mara want and why?

Mara really wants to be able to see into peoples minds, specifically, she wants to be able to see their dreams (She says the power would be called Dreamgazing)… so she could show them a reality where they achieve them. She mentioned that, ‘people don’t know their potential… I want to show them. Cause everyone deserves to achieve their dreams.’ And ‘Villians need to know how their dreams play out, cause they lose even if they achieve them... I hope it redeems them, when they give up and change.
