Blue Ear and Spider-Man are our favorites for different reasons. My son is deaf and wears cochlear implants, so seeing a superhero with hearing technology feels personal. There’s something pretty wonderful about looking at a hero and thinking, “Hey, that’s like me.” And Spider-Man.The jokes, the silliness, the heart. That’s much more my son’s speed than being serious and looking tough. He’s a goofy, stellar human, and I love that he can see himself in heroes who make room for that.
My son is deaf with cochlear implants, so Blue Ear feels like him. Spider-Man brings the humor and heart! He’d love to climb walls; I’d teleport, because getting us out the door is a superhero mission. We’d both choose healing to help people we love.
He’d want super hearing like Blue Ear. As a deaf kid with cochlear implants, he loves seeing a hero like himself and wants other kids to feel represented, too.
