Maze has Sensory Processing Disorder. She works twice as hard every day, but her super hearing and heightened senses are her superpowers!
Thank you for generously supporting Maze in this year’s competition. Your participation made a huge impact for The Stan Lee Foundation and their mission to promote literacy and the narrative arts.
Maze loves Venom because she relates to him. His senses are stronger than everyone else’s, especially his hearing, and certain sounds can be overwhelming. But those same things that make life harder are also part of what makes him powerful. With her sensory processing disorder, Maze has always been taught that her differences can be superpowers too. Venom shows her you can experience the world differently and still be strong, powerful, and pretty freaking cool.
Maze has always loved superheroes because they’re different, and that’s usually what makes them special. Growing up with sensory processing disorder, we’ve always called her sensory differences her superpowers. She loves characters who don’t quite fit the mold but are strong because of what makes them different.
Maze would choose invisibility. The world can sometimes feel too loud, too busy, and just too much. She loves the idea of being able to disappear for a little while when everything gets overwhelming, find somewhere quiet, and come back when she’s ready. For her, invisibility would be a way to escape all the noise and stimulation when she needs a break.
