She started a Diversity Club, stands up for others and befriends the lonely. Even through her own struggles, Olivia always shows up.
Thank you for generously supporting Olivia in this year’s competition. Your participation made a huge impact for The Stan Lee Foundation and their mission to promote literacy and the narrative arts.
Spider-Man is Olivia’s favourite superhero because, to her, being a hero isn’t about having superpowers. It’s about looking out for others, standing up for what’s right, and helping people who feel alone. Those are qualities Olivia tries to live every day. She started a diversity club at school, befriends kids who don’t have many friends, and stands up for others. Even when she has struggles of her own, she still shows up for people who need her.
Olivia’s love of superheroes started with her big brother, DeAndre. She grew up watching him love all things superhero, and of course, little sister wanted to be right there beside him! I remember them watching superhero movies together, with Olivia soaking it all in and looking up to her big brother. What started as something they shared became a love of her own, with Spider-Man eventually becoming her favourite.
If Olivia could have any superpower, I know she would choose the ability to heal people. She has always had a natural instinct to help when someone is hurting or feeling alone. What stands out to me is that she does this even when she has struggles of her own. She doesn’t need to be asked to care, she just does. I think if Olivia could take away someone’s pain and make their day a little brighter, she absolutely would.
