Spider-Man is Owen’s favorite superhero. Owen has always loved spider-man because he is relatable by being human and not perfect, he makes mistakes but he always keeps going. Spider-man is lovable because he always has the responsibility to help others and has the ability to help people. In real life, Owen's superhero human is his Grandma Lynn who has frontotemporal dementia, as this Grandma has shown him you can be and are incredible even with a difficult illness.
Owen’s love of superheroes comes from his mom who has always shared her passion for these incredible characters with him. From watching Superhero movies together and talking about heroes, she has shown Owen that being a superhero is about being brave, helping others, stand up for what is right, and not giving up. Through his mom Owen has learned to see the hero in himself as well as the people around him. What started as a shared love of superheroes has grown into something extra meaningful.
Owen would choose the ability to heal others. Owen has a kind and caring heart, and Owen wants his superpower to reflect who he already is. Owen helps people feel better when they’re hurting, brings hope when someone feels lost, and makes the world a little brighter. Owen wants the greatest superpower of having the power to make a difference in someone’s life. Owen would want to be able to cure his grandma's dementia/ FTD.
