His favorite superhero is Spider-Man! He loves Cyclops and Gambit too, His new lizard he named Gambit! But Spider-Man has been his favorite since before he could walk. He helps people even when he’s scared and shows my boy you don’t have to be the biggest person to be brave. He’s only six, but he says a hero is “nice, helps friends, and does school!” He doesn’t have spider powers…yet—But if he gets them, he says “I still won’t jump on the couch!”
I grew up loving the X-Men because they taught me that being different doesn’t make you less—it can be your greatest strength. As a minority, their stories helped me find belonging. Now I watch X-Men ’97 with Ramon, a former foster child who found his forever family, and I see that same message reaching him. I’m not just passing down my love of superheroes. I’m showing my son that being exactly who you are is your superpower—and you’ll always have a place where you belong.
I think he would like the powers of Multiple Man. He is very active, T-Ball, just started Kindergarten, he wants guitar lessons, if he could have someone take bath-time (his feet stink as I imagine Quicksilver’s must!), another to clean his room, while he relaxed and watched Spider-Man and X-Men, he would be golden!
