Squirrel girl is my favorite superhero. Squirrel girl has always been my favorite superhero because of her sense of childlike wonder and her lightheartedness. My whole life I’ve looked to comic books as a safe haven to explore and express myself safely when I couldn’t always actually be secure. She reminded me of the importance of the pursuit of being the light in dark moments and spaces. Being the sense of wonder can be the biggest gift when it feels like all is lost. She is my Superkid mentor!
I’ve spent much of my young life frequenting comic book stores and was always drawn to the magic and action of comics. I used comic books to help work through pain and understand my feelings in moments I didn’t have answers, like when I wanted to feel inspired in times I felt down. I’ve wanted to become a hero because I always learned I don’t get justice. I’m treated like I’m the villain. I haven’t gotten to be safely myself, and there were times I couldn’t be heard or to freely express myself.
I would want the superpower to heal. That has to come before anything, for animals or humans. I’ve lost both people and animals I love. The start to any hero or villain on their path is always pain. Deep pain that takes a lot of power to heal. It changes you, but you choose for better or worse. Healing suffering can be the best gift on the planet. Loving our world is powerful & it needs protection. We could heal the earth itself. People deserve to have light in the world. By healing bit by bit!
