The world tells boys to toughen up. Steele reminds us the strongest hearts never have to.
Thank you for generously supporting Steele in this year’s competition. Your participation made a huge impact for The Stan Lee Foundation and their mission to promote literacy and the narrative arts.
Steele’s favorite is Miles Morales. He loves that Miles is a regular kid who also gets to be Spider-Man, and that there are trillions of different Spider-Men across different universes. He loves Miles’ fighting style, but there’s one very practical superpower Steele especially appreciates: “He doesn’t have to walk anywhere or drive.”
For Steele, it has pretty much always been Spider-Man. Before he could explain what made superheroes special, Spider-Man was already the one. As he’s gotten older, that love has grown into knowing the different Spider-Men, universes, suits, webs and tiny details most people miss. Ask him about Spider-Man and you’ll quickly realize you’re talking to an expert.
Steele would want anything he draws to come to life. He’d carry a sketchbook and, whenever someone needed help, he’d draw exactly what was needed: a parachute, a jet, even a superhero team. If he couldn’t get there himself, he’d draw someone who could. His imagination wouldn’t just create things. It would become how he helps people.
