I honestly don't know but when, I would let him watch shows as a kid he would pick marvel shows he still watches the Avengers Assemble and Hulk agents of S.M.A.S.H. I really think it came from his creativity and art which he loves! But when he discovered X-men in middle school he instantly felt a connection he always talks to my husband and I about them. He built his own safe space with marvel characters when he could have shut down he is remarkable he is my hero.
Thomas wants the superpower of hope. He recently got a job at a daycare which he loves so much and it made him think of all the times he struggled and if he could give anyone especially his younger self the ability to have hope. He said if we everyone had hope we wouldn't have to fear or worry, he saw a student struggling and stayed up all night brainstorming how to help him, and he did. I hope he knows how super he really is because I do.
